The FMM is an international congregation currently present on 5 continents and in 71 countries, with approximately 4,500 sisters. Despite coming from highly diverse cultural backgrounds, each FMM chooses to build a life together in faith and in international sisterhood \"with sisters who are God's gift.\"<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FMM Congregation was founded by Blessed Marie de la Passion. She was born as H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Marie Philippine de Chappotin de Neuville on May 21, 1839, in Nantes, France<\/strong>, to an aristocratic family\u2014Charles de Chappotin (father) and Sophie Galbaud du Fort (mother). H\u00e9l\u00e8ne was raised in a devout Catholic family with a deep reverence for the Pope and the Church. From an early age, her love and concern for the poor and marginalized were evident in her way of life. Likewise, her vision for mission and evangelization to distant places, especially for those who had not yet known Christ, had already become her focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, she did not lose hope. Under the guidance of Father Petit, S.J., she was directed to join the Society of Mary Reparatrix\u2014a new congregation that embraced Ignatian spirituality. On August 15, 1864, H\u00e9l\u00e8ne received the religious habit and was given a new name: \u201cMarie de la Passion.\u201d <\/em> Still a novice, she was sent on mission to Madurai, India, on March 19, 1865.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1882, Marie de la Passion returned to Rome to ensure the future of the congregation.     FMM INDONESIA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The FMM congregation was present in Indonesia in 1933, precisely in Rangkasbitung and worked in the Mission hospital under the Apostolic Vicariate of Sukabumi. The FMM congregation was asked to send sisters to serve and work in the hospital. By accepting this request, it became an important step for the Church in the Muslim area because with the presence of the sisters there was an opportunity for the Franciscan Fathers to begin working there by becoming pastors for the hospital and the sisters. The sisters served the community which was generally Muslim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After World War II, a time of great suffering, sacrifice and trials, FMM returned to the hospital in Rangkasbitung. During the war, the hospital was cared for and maintained by Sr. Walderburga who came from Germany together with two OSU oblate sisters: Sr. Laeta and Sr. Walburga. Sr. Nicasius returned to the hospital in Rangkasbitung in 1947, Sr. Maria Lunter and Sr. Magdalena in 1949, then Sr. Perpetuus and Fregalda. The convent and polyclinic were rebuilt in 1951. Two years later, the Indonesian government recognized the mission hospital as the Lebak mission hospital. Sr. M. Orens started the School of Nursing Education in 1967. Then in turn Sr. M.     However, FMM experienced a shortage of sisters in the health sector so that it was no longer possible to handle this work. So there was a transfer of responsibility and administration of the hospital from the FMM sisters to the SFS (Franciscan Sisters of Sukabumi) congregation in 1981. At that time Sr. Gerarda was the SFS Provincial and Sr. Joan Bird, FMM Provincial. Sr. Hildebrand and Sr. Waldeburga who had only been in Rangkasbitung for three months were asked to go to Bogor to explore the possibility of FMM managing a children's orphanage (Jeugdzorg) located at Museumweg, now Jl. The first novitiate was opened in Sindanglaya in 1960, the community in Soa - Bajawa in 1967, in Yogya in 1969, while the communities in Tanah Tinggi and Roxy in 1973.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    More and more young Indonesian women are interested in joining, and considering the importance of formation for the younger generation of the congregation's successors, in 1975, the novitiate was moved from Sindanglaya to Jl. Pabaton\u2013Bogor. In 1978, a community was opened in Pagal \u2013 Flores, and followed by the Ruteng and Yogya communities. Until now, FMM has worked in 6 dioceses.       1. Immaculate Conception Community, Bogor<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Through the OFM Sisters, FMM was asked to take over the social work of Jeugdzorg and a SKP (Girls' Skills School) belonging to the secular Order \"Vrouwen Van Nazareth\" because its members had planned to return to the Netherlands. The first FMM house worked in Buitenzorg, located on Museumweg (Jalan Kantor Batu). Canonically this house was founded on July 25, 1933. The FMM sisters served in the field of Kindergarten-SMA Regina Pacis Bogor School Education Pastoral Social Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        2. St. Adolphine Community, Serang<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Founded on June 15, 1940, the FMM Sisters began their educational work in Serang in 1938 at the request of Father Pascalis Heitkonig, OFM. Two sisters were asked to help teach at an Elementary School for Dutch and Chinese children. Starting with 23 first graders and 33 kindergarten children, the school grew and the number of students increased. Currently, FMM serves in the fields of Education and Social Pastoral at the Parish of Christ the King, Serang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        3. Our Lady Community, Jakarta<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The FMM sisters worked in Jakarta at the request of Mgr. Willekens SJ. Apostolic Vicariate of Batavia. On May 17, 1952, the Notre Dame des Victoires monastery was occupied by the FMM sisters, and the Regina Pacis International School was also built, which began construction on Jl. Palmerah Utara 1 in 1963.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Regina Pacis School with Indonesian language was started in 1956. Next was the construction of the Santa Maria BalKesmas Polyclinic in 1967. Sister FMM was also involved in community activities such as becoming RT chairperson, Pastoral social services and JPIC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        4. Our Lady of Providence Community, Jambi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The monastery was built on October 20, 1954. The sisters' ministry works include the St. Theresia Hospital and the Xaverius 1 Kindergarten-Elementary School. The presence of the sisters also serves the simple community, serves the congregation who are in stations that are not reached by the Parish, and is involved in Church activities, such as accompanying altar servers and Catholic Youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        5. Our Lady of Lourdes Community, Bajawa.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Established in 1963. Sr. Yasintha is a missionary who works as a doctor. She started her health service to the community in Ngada & Manggarai districts. In 1976 the FMM sisters built a girls' dormitory to respond to the needs of students who came from outside the city of Bajawa. The number of children in the girls' dormitory continues to increase every year. The sisters routinely prepare various spiritual activities to accompany and maintain the faith of the students who live in the dormitory. Then Regina Pacis Kindergarten was built and is still running until now<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        6. Community of St. Francis, Soa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The year 1964 was the beginning of the presence of FMM in Soa at the request of Bishop Donatum Djagom, SVD. FMM was present to pay attention to the health of the Soa congregation. Initially, the sisters came from Bajawa to Soa for two days a week. In 1967, a monastery was built and 2 FMM sisters settled in Soa and had their own health facilities. Currently, the FMM sisters in the Soa community are active in pastoral work among the congregation and are involved in social work such as helping disaster victims, visiting the elderly and the sick.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

         7. Nazareth Community Pagal, Flores<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Pagal is located in Manggarai Regency, Cibal sub-district. This area is included in the Parish of Christ the King Pagal, Reo Deanery, approximately 20 km from the city of Ruteng. The ideal of FMM in Pagal is to be present among the people and serve in Franciscan simplicity and joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        FMM's service in Pagal began on July 16, 1978. Currently, the sisters also manage the St. Clara girls' dormitory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        8. Bethlehem Watuapi Community, Flores<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        On Saturday, February 21, 2015, the Parish Priest of Wekaseko, Father Gregorius Ayunus Usman, together with the congregation of Watu Api station were ready to welcome the arrival of the FMM Sisters who would start a community there with a traditional ceremony. The purpose of the presence of FMM is to increase the faith of the congregation through pastoral services in categorical groups, women's empowerment and social. In the liturgical service, the sisters accompany the liturgical officers for Sundays, decorate the church, visit and bring communion to the sick and elderly, empower women by training them in processing food from local ingredients, organic farming and sewing courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        9. Marie de la Passion Community Bau Bau, Buton Island, Southeast Sulawesi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Since November 7, 2014, FMM sisters have been present in Baubau to answer the needs of the local Church to handle and continue the work of Catholic education. St. Paulus Baubau School, which was previously managed by St. Paulus Parish, has been the Regina Pacis Baubau School since 2017. FMM is the first nun congregation present in Baubau. Through educational work, they strive to present the face of Christ in the midst of the predominantly Muslim community and provide quality Catholic education for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        10. Pre-Novitiate Community, Emmaus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Initially it was a formation house for FMM Novitiate. In 1975, the Novitiate house which was originally in Sindanglaya, Cipanas was moved to Jl. Pabaton No. 42 Bogor with the name Emmaus Novitiate. Starting in 2023, the formation for the novices was united in the FMM International Novitiate in Tagaytay Philippines, this house was then converted into a formation house for FMM Novitiate. In this house, the postulants\/novitiates undergo initial formation as FMM religious. In addition to undergoing formation, the postulants are also active with the sisters in church life in the Parish and Diocese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        In 2027, the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary will celebrate 150 years of its founding. The Foundress of FMM, Blessed Marie de la Passion once said, \u201cIf this Order is my work, it will die with me, but if it is God\u2019s work, it will live on.\u201d The existence of the Order until now proves that this Order is truly God\u2019s work. The FMM Sisters, who are currently spread across 71 countries on five continents, walk and struggle together to continue the mission inherited by Marie de la Passion, namely to bring Jesus to the world and to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
