Preparing for the KOPTARI Plenary Session 2024

KOPTARI, or the Conference of Major Religious Superiors of Indonesia, which serves as a platform to bring together leaders from various religious congregations in Indonesia, will hold its Plenary Session again in 2024. This session is typically held every three years.

The last KOPTARI Plenary Session was held during the pandemic, so the session took place virtually via Zoom, specifically from September 24-27, 2021. During that meeting, the KOPTARI 2021 Plenary Session Commitment and Recommendations were formulated, and the Board of Executives for each faction was elected for the 2024-2027 term.

In 2024, the KOPTARI Plenary Session will be held from September 24-27 at the Jayakarta Hotel in Kuta, Bali, with the theme "Pilgrims of Hope on the Journey Toward Peace."

It is hoped that all KOPTARI members will be able to attend and participate in this meeting. Currently, the KOPTARI membership, which is divided into three factions, consists of: - IBSI (Indonesian Association of Sisters): 110 congregations of sisters and 5 secular congregations - MASI (Indonesian Association of Priests): 41 congregations of religious priests - MABRI (Indonesian Brotherhood Association): 11 congregations of brothers

KOPTARI activities are usually carried out within each faction (IBSI, MASI, MABRI), with themes and types of activities tailored to the needs of the time. During the upcoming plenary session, reports from each faction will be presented, along with evaluations and reflections. Additionally, the election of a new Board of Executives for KOPTARI (as well as for the factions: MASI, MABRI, and IBSI) will take place.

This Plenary Session will provide an opportunity for the leaders of religious congregations to reflect on their identity and vocation as religious. It is hoped that through listening to reports, evaluations, and sharing, as well as the election of a new leadership, KOPTARI will experience a fresh revitalization.

In line with its purpose, it is hoped that through KOPTARI, cooperation can be fostered and mutual support can be strengthened in the life and work of the religious institutes. This platform also aims to enhance the service of religious men and women to the Church and society, and on behalf of the religious institutes, to cultivate good relationships with other parties, both ecclesial and societal, especially with the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI). ***
