AMORXVIII DAY3 – LISTENING TO THE PROPHETIC VOICE TODAY

The introduction to the beauty of interfaith unity was supported by a sharing session from Bro Bram of Vihara Karangdjati. He shared his experiences with interfaith meditation, which serves as a means to cultivate awareness, empathy, and the experience of love and compassion. The participants were provided with insights into the integration of religions, highlighting their strength and role in fostering healing, inner peace, and affection. A short mindfulness breathing exercise reminded everyone of the breath of the Spirit and its transformative power. This breath then carried participants to a place where they could take action rooted in love and compassion, reinforcing the connection between inner peace and positive action in the world. This session emphasized how practices like meditation can bridge spiritual traditions, fostering deeper understanding and empathy across faiths.

In the next sharing session, participants were introduced to the community of Pondok Al-Fatah through Gustaf Arif. Gustaf works in supporting the Waria (transgender) community and shared insights into the reality of their lives, which often involve feelings of alienation, a lack of belonging, social exclusion, and being made to feel less than human. He explained that transgender individuals face a range of conflicts, starting with internal struggles, where they continually wrestle with their sexual identity. As they try to express their feelings to their families, they often encounter family conflicts. Beyond that, they face societal challenges, including issues with the community, government, media, and cultural and religious conflicts. Gustaf’s sharing provided a deep understanding of the complex realities that transgender people face and the urgent need for empathy, acceptance, and support from all sectors of society.

During the next presentation at dinner, the concrete grassroots responses of the "young prophets" among us were reflected in the works of the Sega Mubeng community—distributing rice to those in need; the Gusdurian Network, which promotes tolerance, democracy, peace, ecological justice, and inclusive education; and the young women of Srikandi Lintas Iman (Srili), who work to revitalize the role of women in managing religious diversity. These groups have all become prophetic voices in today’s world. We were invited to listen, open our hearts, and become prophets of peace and tolerance through concrete actions, offering hope in the realities of today's world. These movements highlight the power of grassroots efforts in fostering change and promoting values of compassion, justice, and unity in a diverse and challenging world.
